In March 2023, Cedar LNG became Canada’s first Indigenous majority-owned LNG facility to receive an Environmental Assessment Certificate from the British Columbia government and a positive Decision Statement from the federal government.
Cedar LNG is a proposed floating LNG facility in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada, within the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation. The project is strategically positioned to leverage Canada’s abundant natural gas supply and British Columbia’s growing LNG infrastructure to produce industry-leading, low-carbon, cost-competitive Canadian LNG for overseas markets. Cedar LNG will have one of the cleanest environmental profiles in the world, and will provide unprecedented opportunities for both the Haisla Nation and the region.
Cedar LNG is strategically positioned to leverage Canada’s abundant natural gas supply and British Columbia’s growing LNG infrastructure to produce industry-leading, low-carbon, cost-competitive Canadian LNG for overseas markets. Powered entirely by clean, renewable energy from BC Hydro, Cedar LNG will be one of the lowest carbon intensity LNG facilities in the world. It will contribute to the displacement of coal as an energy source in Asia, achieving higher prices for Canadian producers, contributing to lower overall global emissions, and enhancing global energy security. Cedar LNG is committed to advancing a best-in-class LNG project that protects the environment, respects Haisla and local values, and meets the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility.
Cedar LNG is a partnership between Pembina Pipeline Corporation (Pembina) and the Haisla Nation to develop a proposed floating LNG facility in Kitimat, B.C., within the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation. Cedar LNG is the world’s first Indigenous majority-owned LNG project, will have one of the cleanest environmental profiles in the world, and will provide unprecedented opportunities for both the Haisla Nation and the region.
